Surface plasmon at a metal-dielectric interface with an epsilon-near-zero transition layer

چکیده

A metal-dielectric interface is usually modeled by a zero-width layer, where dielectric permittivity suffers discontinuity jump. In reality, there narrow transition region, which includes an epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) layer. We show that due to continuous function the dispersion of surface plasmon modified. The energy radiates through ENZ giving rise additional radiative losses. Direct evidence effects related layer given observation plasmonic resonance in presence strong electric field normal metal film. affects electron density within leads measurable shift resonance.

Optically induced metal-to-dielectric transition in Epsilon-Near-Zero metamaterials

Epsilon-Near-Zero materials exhibit a transition in the real part of the dielectric permittivity from positive to negative value as a function of wavelength. Here we study metal-dielectric layered metamaterials in the homogenised regime (each layer has strongly subwavelength thickness) with zero real part of the permittivity in the near-infrared region. By optically pumping the metamaterial we ...

Scaling of the nonlinear response of the surface plasmon polariton at a metal/dielectric interface

Plasmonic systems involve interfaces containing both a metal and a dielectric material. In an effort to investigate the scaling of the nonlinear response of the surface plasmon polariton at a metal/dielectric interface, where both the metal and the dielectric present optical nonlinearity, we introduce a figure-of-merit that quantifies the contribution of the metal and the dielectric to the nonl...

Broadband epsilon-near-zero metamaterials with steplike metal-dielectric multilayer structures

The concept of the broadband epsilon-near-zero meta-atom consisting of layered stacks with specified metallic filling ratio and thickness is proposed based on the Bergman spectral representation of the effective permittivity. The steplike metal-dielectric multilayer structures are designed to achieve realistic broadband epsilon-near-zero meta-atoms in optical frequency range. These meta-atoms c...

Polarization-Insensitive Surface Plasmon Polarization Electro-Absorption Modulator Based on Epsilon-Near-Zero Indium Tin Oxide

CMOS-compatible plasmonic modulators operating at the telecom wavelength are significant for a variety of on-chip applications. Relying on the manipulation of the transverse magnetic (TM) mode excited on the metal-dielectric interface, most of the previous demonstrations are designed to response only for specific polarization state. In this case, it will lead to a high polarization dependent lo...
